In December, the Tower of Toys initiative collected unwrapped children’s toys, sports equipment, cosmetics, movie certificates, and gift cards to benefit children and families in need for the ninth consecutive year. Donations were distributed during several socially-distanced events at the Atrium of the Beacon Building at 814 Elm Street, Manchester, NH.

The Tower of Toys collected a total of 2,500 presents, $1,400 in gift cards, and $15,600 in monetary donations – used to purchase additional gifts – for the record-breaking 1,500 children served this year.

In 2019, the Tower of Toys benefited nearly 350 children from local families. The COVID-19 pandemic increased the 2020 need significantly: even before the distribution events, more than 350 messages for assistance had already been received.

“2020 was overwhelming for us all but proved even more difficult for families dealing with financial hardships brought on by job or housing loss, income reduction, and even illness,” says Carol Lawrence, President of the Red Arrow Diners. “The Tower of Toys sponsors are always grateful for the community’s dedication in making the holidays magical for all families. We are humbled by the overwhelming generosity exhibited this year and thank all who participated for helping us fill the gaps created by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
